Hampshire U18 7 - 29 Kent U18

at Dartford RFC on Sunday 12th January 2020

Straight from the start Hampshire put themselves under pressure. The kick off was knocked on and in the ensuing ruck Hampshire hands were spotted by the ref and a penalty awarded. Kent put the ball into touch and from the lineout quickly moved the ball through the backs to score in the opposite corner.

Hampshire bounced back and after a 5 minutes of pressure Ben Voase broke the line to score. The conversion was put over by Harry Faulkner. The game then settled down with both teams enjoying periods of pressure but turning the ball over in the 22.The outstanding player of the game was the Kent 9 and after another line break from him Kent scored just before half time.

The second half started much like the first with Kent moving the ball up field from the kick off to go over in the corner. Hampshire fought back but again lost the ball at vital times. Kent then produced the move of the game. From turn over ball they charged down the wing with a series of passes out of the tackle. This drew the Hampshire defence in leaving space for the Kent backs to go over for another score.

The game finished with another try to Kent and Hampshire rueing missed chances. Hampshire scrum was dominate again and there was some great rugby from both sides but Hampshire struggled to cope with the Kent 9, who affected several turn overs and line breaks.

Nominations are now open for the 2020 awards, with entries closing on Sunday 23 February.
