| INTRODUCTION
FROM HRFUW |
What
is County Rugby?
Club Hampshire runs the County
Programme. The 'season' runs from the selection trial on
Sunday 25th September 2011 to the end of December 2011. From
this there will be squads created for both the U15 and U18 squads
and also the Women's team. In all age groups, there will be
a Training squad from which a playing squad will be selected for
each fixture. We cannot guarantee that by being part of the
training squad you will automatically be selected to play in the
fixtures. There will be two County games within the Under 15
and Under 18 programme, and a festival, with three fixtures for
the Women's Team.. In order to progress along the Player
Pathway, players will only be nominated from the County Squad.
The RFUW has clearly stated that to be considered for Divisional
and National Squads nomination, you must be in the County Training
squad. You cannot be nominated by a school or club for
Divisional Rugby.
Squad size
The County Selection process will be completed in September and
players will be notified of their outcome.
The squads this year will operate in the following way:
1) Your commitment
We would strongly advise that all players who would like to be
selected to play need to show commitment to playing rugb at a Club
within Hampshire. It has been identified that players
development is greatly improved with regular 'CLUB' rugby.
The development opportunity at County level need to be underpinned
with all players having good core skills, e.g. ability to pass,
knowledge of player position, commitment to taking the tackle,
ability to run onto the ball etc.
The County Coaching squad are in regular contact with Club Coaches
and the players attendance will be checked to ensure that you are
playing and attending training.
2) Kit
For matches you will be issued with a playing shirt and County
Socks. You are required to supply blue cotton rugby
shorts. It is suggested that you purchase a pair of Club
Hampshire shorts from the online County shop.
This shop also sells Club Hampshire branded training and
leisurewear, which you are able to purchase. The County Ship
is within the HRFU website (www.hampshirerugby.co.uk).
Post match you are expected to wear a 'Hampshire Rugby Polo shirt
(available from the website) and blue/black trousers and shoes.
A logon for the site is available from your County Manager.
Players selected for the Squad are eligible to join the 4SM
programme. This costs £40 per player. 4SM is a sports
fast track physiotherapy service offered to County Athletes, which
is delivered at either BASIC or Southampton General Hospital.
3) Training
You are expected to attend with suitable warm clothing. You
are advised to bring your own drink and munchies for the journey
home.
4) Player pathway
What is this?
It's the pathway that a player can progress along, and there is
the possibility that as an Under 15 player you are just five years
away from an England shirt!
After the completion of the County Programme, the most talented
athletes will be nominated to attend a Divisional Selection Day in
January 2011. It is planned to hold Development Days post
December for those not selected to the Divisional Squad.
