Petersfield RFC Annual Mini Rugby Workshop
Wednesday, 07 July 2010
ImagePetersfield RFC will run it's 16th Mini Rugby Workshop on the weekend of 13 to 15 August at Penns Place again this year and include in its supporters, TOPGEAR LIE, who will be in attendance.  But the emphasis will be on the tremendously popular event Fun-Rugby Weekend, geared to give children of all ages a happy, fun introduction to the "Game Played in Heaven".

Every August, it has attracted hundreds of children and has brought generations of players to the club over the years.

This event is hugely appreciated by the players and parents alike, with the emphasis being on participation and pleasure in sport and every child leaving with the gift of a rugby ball to encourage them.  The workshop has been a great gateway to a lifelong involvement in rugby by introducing boys and girls aged 5-11 to the game plus allowing existing players to consolidate their skills.

All the club asks is that entrants being appropriate sports wear - that is T-Shirt, shorts or tracksuit, trainers or rugby boots, a snack of some kind and wear sun block if its hot.  Again the club will provide soft drinks and water.

On the Sunday, there is the presentation of rugby balls at 12.30pm, the Petersfield RFC Prize Draw, with a super prize of a Childs Bike, with a barbecue and the usual clubhouse facilities for the parents.  PRFC club kit is also available for sale.  So please do come down to a super fun-filled day.  The club encourages parents to come and watch and the Club House will be open for tea, coffee and snacks on all three days.

Petersfield RFC is very proud of the many players who have started their playing careers at Penns Place and who have gone onto greater things.  Charlie Amesbury is a capped England Seven's Player and had joined Newcastle Falcons this season - who can forget his fabulous try against the All Blacks in the 2007 World Sevens Tournament.  Fiona Pocock is a current England Ladies star winger and Joe Atkinson gained three England Under 16 caps las tyear and is with the London Irish Academy.  And it has just been announced that Petersfield player Will Spencer will tour South Africa with England Under 18s this month and play three Test matches.

Over the weekend, players are supervised at all age groups by RFU qualified club coaches.  For boys and girls, from Under 7*, 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12, the course includes Coaching, FREE rugby ball (worth £10) and soft drinks.  The only thing to mention is that the club cannot accept applicants born after 1.9.2004.  The cost is, for the three days is £30.00.

And to cater for the younger players who want to try the 'great game' under controlled conditions, there is an Under 6s Special Taster Session on Sunday 13 August from 10am to 12.30pm (20 places only) at only £10 and again this includes Coaching, FREE rugby ball and soft drinks.
